being compassionate (even to strangers) is a moral obligation

There are many reasons why morality demands that all people treat all other people well

With compassion, patience, and generosity

Doing so is an obligation for all humans, it is a part of being human

If you are nasty to others then you're not doing very well at being human and people who do that need correcting, for the good of everyone

Most people throughout the world know that being compassionate is a moral demand instinctively and this outlook is re-enforced by the world's various religious and philosophical traditions

Here is a big reason why you should treat all other people well:

They are all figurations of The Divine Substance

In this respect they are just like you

And God loves them as he loves you

They are like you - more than that, they are consubstantial with you

You and them are of the same ultimate substance, you have the same nature

And God loves them as he loves you

I think those are powerful reasons for treating other people well - even total strangers and people from totally different cultures

Humans should regard each other as siblings, God is above us all like a parent and loves each of us

I believe this is how God sees things and is what God wants
