I am now sick of World War II

I am now bored of the second world war

It used to really interest me

But right now I’ve had enough

I have always found its scale and the intensity of its violence very compelling

In the years since it came to an end it has become an operatic tale of humanity overcoming evil in an epic struggle - embedded deep in our collective consciousness

Or at least that is how we now tend to see it, having won it

Everyone had to have a demanding six-year long break from peace and comfort

My own grandfather was in the Royal Navy

And it was horrific, so much suffering and death

We should never forget the second world war – it is how our modern world came to be and it can teach us lessons

But I think it would be good if we collectively put that nightmare behind us and stopped dwelling on it so much and moved on!

1940 is such a ridiculously long time ago yet we are still in its shadow

It should be taught in schools, but from now on if I see a film set in WWII or a book about it then I would be much less interested in seeing/reading it

I have finally got over it

It has cast a shadow over my life, and I have only been alive since 1983!

I think it has been occupying its prime place in the popular consciousness for too long

It's over, it's settled. We won!

It was a nasty horrid time, and we should do our best to avoid such a thing ever happening again

It can serve as a model of the type of thing we should avoid!

But we should stop dwelling on it and leave it in the past

That's what I've decided to do with myself anyways!

From now on I am going to become interested in the French revolution and the Napoleonic wars instead – these are recent enough to be relevant to today’s world but I have not been over-exposed to them as I have WWII

And I do know a stupid amount about World War II and much of that is more or less useless knowledge!

Anyway, perhaps things will change once it finally slips out of living memory?

I’m sick of it and if it has anything to do with World War II I will avoid it

Go back to the 1940s!!!

It was a nightmare. A nightmare that is now very much over. And when you wake up from a nightmare the sensible thing to do is to pay attention to it, and then move on and carry on with your life, going forwards - not backwards!

Of course, we should still commemorate the sacrifices of those who fought in the allied war effort, it couldn't have been won without the "blood sweat and tears" of the ordinary people

But I think we should get out of its shadow and move on and leave it in the past. Which is I think something a lot of people have difficulty doing.
